BASEL, Switzerland (March 19, 2016) — Solidscape®, Inc., the leading manufacturer of high precision 3D wax printers for the jewelry industry, announces the winners of the fifth annual Baselworld Design Competition. As the focal point of the watch and jewelry industry, Baselworld inspires industry leaders and top designers to showcase their creations and innovations on a worldwide stage. Every year Solidscape provides designers the opportunity to receive international recognition for their work.

“Solidscape proudly showcases at Baselworld the most creative and innovative jewelry designs enabled by 3D printing technology,” stated Fabio Esposito, Solidscape President and CEO. “This year’s winning designers have again pushed the boundaries of complex geometries and organic shapes that are impossible to produce through traditional hand carving techniques. These designers are empowered by Solidscape’s precision 3D printing technology that unleashes their imagination.”

Winning Designs – Jewelry

Capturing the Platinum Award for jewelry is Miron Kutarba of A2 Studio Biżuterii of Poland for his thoughtful creativity in designing an amber slipknot reminiscent of the growth pattern of a tree of which the amber is a product. His sensitivity to nature is obvious in this unique design.

The Gold Award for jewelry is Amriendu Sen of Sen Designing Studio in India. The intricate Art of Time watch features deep channels for cloisonné inlay which demands the precision and accuracy when creating the thin separator walls.

Organic meets vintage with the Silver Award winning ruby ring designed by Charles Babb Designs of the United States. Appropriately named “The Duchess”, its influence harbors back to a classic era but with a modern twist. Both intricate and smooth detailing gives this beautiful ring a wide appeal.
Tied for the Silver Award for jewelry is Japanese designer Makiko Maeda for interpreting the delicate cherry blossom and its clean, simple lines to create a beautiful contemporary ring design

Winning Designs – Fine Art

The “Fine Art” award category recognizes unique entrants that represent free form expression of non-jewelry designs executed in a manner similar to jewelry. They require mastery of CAD design and Solidscape’s industry-leading high precision 3D printers to create flawlessly castable pieces.

The Platinum Award for fine art goes to Sri Lanka’s W.A. Chamal S. Jayaratna of EON Master Model Solutions. His unique filigree cuff bracelet design named Secret of the Sea is a creative crossover between Jewelry and Fine Art. The whimsical design incorporates different color stones to convey a fun monster of the deep sure to delight any ocean lover, or enthusiast.

The Gold Award for fine art is goes to Tomas Wittelsbach for his Future Forward figurine. His sculptural design technique is used to create this sassy time traveler and other fun jewelry pieces with a fresh new approach to design.

The Silver Award for fine art is the powerfully simple Golden Almsbowl from Prachaya Viriyasuthee of Thailand. This alms bowl, one of the simplest but most important objects in the daily lives of Buddhist monks, has been combined with the lotus flower which represents the purity of the mind and soul
Design entries were judged based on successful wax modeling printed by a Solidscape 3D printer, best design (artistry and style), as well as best use of technology (CAD/Solidscape 3D printing). Winning designs are featured below and all finalists’ pieces can be found in the design excellence centerpiece at Solidscape’s Baselworld exhibit, Hall 2.0 J64.
